There is no doubt that pollution in our oceans causes danger to the ecosystem and to marine life. This was really brought home when shocking footage was caught recently of a seal with a knife its mouth.
Last February, an endangered monk seal called Manu’iwa was born in the wild in Hawaii. She is one of three seals to reside there which is of great importance because there are only approximately 1400 of this specie’s alive.
These seal pups are monitored by the Marine Mammal Center and people have been asked to stay away from them, giving them a natural habitat to live in.

Hawaii’s Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) said:
“Last Sunday the people observing the seal spotted it playing with a bright orange object in its mouth,”. “As they watched the seal dive beneath near-shore rocks and come back up, they realized Manu’iwa was holding a knife in [her] mouth by its handle.”

Thankfully Manu’iwa let go of the blade which was later retrieved, but the story could have had a much different ending.
“It’s a reminder to all of us to properly dispose of our trash,” the DLNR officer said.
This story is a reminder of the dangers of pollution and how careless human actions can be life threatening to wildlife.
