At least 10 breeds of sharks, including the Great Hammerhead and Great White may be relocating to Ireland within the next 30 years, due to climate change and increasing water temperatures.
The sharks will initially relocate off the Cork and Wexford coasts where there are plenty of seals as well as their tamer shark relatives. They will then expand out to Devon and Cornwall in the UK.
Since 1900 there have been more than 200 reported shark attacks in Europe. If you are unfortunately attacked by a shark, experts recommend punching it on the nose or jab it in the eye.
A spokesman for Nat Geo WILD said sharks had been portrayed for too long in a one-dimensional way, as terrifying predators but that their show “Sharkfest” will show them in a new light.
